World Without The Internet

Once again South Park makes another episode that relates to our class. The new episode aired this Wednesday is about everyone waking up one day to the internet not working. It's called Over Logging. Haha, it is so funny.

I watched the South Park episode and it really discussed a lot of the key issues about the internet that we've talked about in class.

The part that really related to class was when two of the characters on the show had formed a romantic relationship through the internet. The characters had only communicated through the use of the internet, so upon the loss of this medium, they stopped communicating.

Later on in the episode, they meet face to face, but neither of them are willing to self-disclose any information. Instead they awkwardly turn around and agree to meet and talk online later.

This really addresses the issue about self-disclosure and how it is facilitated through the use of the internet. The characters claimed to be in love and know everything about one another, yet when they are confronted face to face, they have nothing to say to each other. They choose not to self disclose in person. This also adds to the idea that anonymity can help people self-disclose.
